Set on the Italian Riviera in Northwestern Italy — and mostly inaccessible by automobiles — this quaint hillside region is a network of five fishing villages connected by trains, boats and pathways. Known for its terraced mountainsides and tasty seafood, Cinque Terre is a foodie's paradise — where homemade pesto and locally made wines are part of the charm.

Day 1 - Lucca
Our adventure begins in Lucca. Arrive anytime today and make your way to our hotel. This evening, we meet our local leader and discuss the days ahead. Our welcome dinner is at a favorite local spot.
Day 2 - Lucca
The scenic Serchio River and picturesque Tuscan countryside are the backdrop for our cycling tour today. We'll stop at a local market to pick up fresh ingredients for our picnic lunch. The remainder of the day will be unscripted to make our own discoveries of this charming Tuscan town.
Day 3 - Lucca - Levanto
We venture today to Levanto, centrally located on the Ligurian coast. With an interesting old center, delightful painted villas, and delicious restaurants, it is the perfect base to explore the Cinque Terre. We'll get familiar with the town on bikes and ride on the cycling path along the old coastal railway line to Framura. Perhaps enjoy an aperitivo in a great spot overlooking the sea, before returning to Levanto.
Day 4 - Levanto > Monterosso > Levanto
Today we'll walk along the coast from Levanto to Monterosso, the first of the five villages of the Cinque Terre. Our path moves us through the old town centre of Levanto, past the stunning cathedral and up to its castle. It then continues up to Punta Mesco, the most notable promontory in the region. Along the way, we'll enjoy marvelous views of the rugged coastline as we dip down into Monterosso – a colourful village with blue, red and yellow houses that cluster along the beachfront. Take your time to soak in this engaging little town before hopping the local train back to Levanto. The flavors of the region come alive during a pesto class this evening.
Day 5 - Levanto > Cinque Terre > Levanto
This morning return to the footpaths of Cinque Terre, a region of Italy famed for its coastline and pastel villages dotting the mountains that plunge into the sea. The trails that run between villages were once the only way to travel in the region. We'll wander through olive groves, vineyards and stumble upon idyllic, breathtaking vistas. If you're feeling energetic, walking the entire path will give you the best taste of the villages and countryside. Or choose to walk just a few sections, and take the train between any of the villages or back to our home in Levanto whenever you please.
Day 6 - Levanto - Santa Margherita Ligure
We'll travel by local train to Santa Margherita Ligure where we'll see the best of the Portofino Peninsula. A short walking tour through the historical center of Santa Margherita Ligure will lead us to the hills to enjoy beautiful views across the bay. We'll reach Portofino, one of the most typical Ligurian seaside villages. We'll gain a different perspective as we kayak along the stunning coastline. After, perhaps enjoy a relaxed aperitivo on the beach, go for a swim or explore the village before returning to Santa Margherita.
Day 7 - Santa Margherita Ligure
Today is unscripted so you can fully enjoy Santa Margherita Ligure your way. Stroll through its beautiful town center or relax on the beach. You may wish to adventure further – take the train to the stunning city of Camogli or perhaps a walk across the beautiful hills of the Portofino Peninsula. There are so many ways to create the perfect ending to your Cinque Terre adventure!
Day 8 - Santa Margherita Ligure
Our adventure through the five villages ends today.
