Day 1 - Mexico City
Hola! Welcome to Mexico! Make your way to our hotel and take to the streets to explore the surrounding area of Zona Rosa, our neighborhood for the next three nights. Known for its restaurants and popular nightlife, it's the perfect place for an introduction to the culture of Mexico City. Depending on when you arrive, you may choose to head to Mexico's Historic Center or Condesa neighborhood for sightseeing, shopping and dining! Whatever you choose to do, enjoy the vibrant culture this capital city has to offer. This evening meet your local leader and get to know your fellow travelers at a welcome meeting followed by dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 2 - Mexico City
Today, we head to the Xochimilco neighborhood, famous for its floating gardens where restaurants and chefs grow their local ingredients. Next, dig into traditional cuisine aboard a trajinera — or long boat —and float around the surrounding canals. This afternoon is yours to write your own adventure! Perhaps visit the home of Frida Kahlo in the bohemian neighborhood of Coyoacan, or make your way downtown to visit the Templo Mayor or The Palace of Fine Arts. Whatever you choose, the adventure is yours to make.
Day 3 - Mexico City
After breakfast, explore Mexico City's historic center with visits to the Metropolitan Cathedral, Zócalo and the National Palace featuring Diego Rivera's murals. Next we visit San Juan market, one of the largest markets in the city; here we taste a local delicacy — insects! After working up an appetite at the market, visit a traditional cantina to try more local dishes and drinks. Next, we head to the Museum of Tequila and Mezcal to learn the art of tequila-making, complete with taste tests. This evening is yours — perhaps catch a thrilling Lucha Libre show or relax back at the hotel.
Day 4 - Mexico City to Puebla
We leave Mexico City this morning and venture to the Teotihuacan ruins, formerly one of the largest cities in the world. Meet an Insider Expert and discover the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon. To understand the culture of the once lively city, stroll along "The Avenue of the Dead" to feel what life used to be like 2,000 years ago. After exploring the ruins on our own, we continue to the colonial, yet rapidly developing city of Puebla. Upon arrival, we take a leisurely stroll to familiarize ourselves with the city. Visit Calle de Los Dulces (Candy Street), El Parian (Craft Market) and Rosary Chapel. Take the rest of the afternoon to explore freely and dive deeper into authentic Mexican culture. At dinner, perhaps try one of the city's culinary specialties — mole poblano!
Day 5 - Puebla
Today, we travel just outside the city to visit Cholula's Pyramid. Buried under natural landscape the structure is the largest man-made pyramid in the world, with a base nearly four times the size of the Pyramids of Giza. After, return to Puebla to enjoy time unscripted to immerse yourself even further in the culture. Today is the perfect time to pick up souvenirs at the many local markets that boast impressive handmade crafts made by local artisans.
Day 6 - Puebla to Oaxaca
Today we journey south to Oaxaca, known for its colorful culture and art scene. Stroll through the beautiful cobbled streets and become acquainted with the unique architecture. For lunch, enjoy the local cuisine and hear about gastronomical secrets and special ingredients that make Oaxaca's food scene so iconic. This evening we visit a Mezcaleria — and learn how to taste the difference between tequila and mezcal!
Day 7 - Oaxaca
We visit the petrified waterfalls of Hierve el Agua. Formed over thousands of years, this area is truly stuck in time. After exploring the natural beauty of the area, we further embrace Mexican culture with a visit to an ancient Zapotec town, Teotitlan del Valle. Well-known for their textile and tapestry crafting, we get to know the locals through studying this popular craft before returning to Oaxaca for our last evening together.
Day 8 - Oaxaca
After breakfast, your trip to Oaxaca comes to an end. Depart at any time today; perhaps stay a few extra days in this beautiful city, or head south to relax on the Huatulco coast.
